The Old Ploughboy was once a traditional pub and inn, and a real hub of village life, certainly for the community around Buxton Old Road.
Today, it’s been transformed into a beautiful family home, but there’s still plenty of character that gives you a nod to its past.
You’d be forgiven for thinking this is a quaint country cottage, with small rooms and low ceilings, but it’s actually quite the opposite.
Deceptive from the kerbside, you’ve circa 2,000 sq ft of living accommodation, and it’s a home that really does surprise you once you step inside.
Stepping into the entrance hall, you’ll immediately get a sense of the size. It’s a fabulous space, but the main thing you notice is the character and standard of finish throughout this home.
Double doors then take you through into what I’d say is the main feature of the home.
This incredible open-plan space simply has the WOW factor.
You’ve a beautifully fitted kitchen with extensive worktop and storage space, solid worktops and some really nice cottage-style features, including the timber mantel over the cooker and Belfast sink.
Opening through into the living area, you’ll immediately notice the decorative log burner. Whilst aesthetically it's a beautiful feature, it’s also incredibly practical and really sets the feel for this lovely, warm space.
The room then opens into a vaulted dining area. Again, you’ve some lovely stone detailing, bi-folding doors opening onto the decking and incredible natural light, with windows on three sides and even a Velux window in the roof.
The ground floor doesn’t end there though.
Step into the 'snug', which proportionally is far from it! You’ve an additional living room, giving you a completely separate space to relax, along with a good-sized utility room and separate downstairs WC to complete the ground floor accommodation.
Upstairs, you’ve four good-sized bedrooms, with the master set out as a suite.
The master bedroom is a great size, with plenty of bedroom space, a walk-in wardrobe area and a beautifully finished en-suite.
The second bedroom is again a fantastic size. Currently housing a super king-size bed, you’ll see just how spacious it is. It’s also beautifully finished, with a cast iron fireplace, vaulted ceiling and some lovely exposed stone and timber features that really add to the character.
The third bedroom is another good-sized double, and I’d say the fourth could accommodate a double bed too, although it would also make a really spacious single bedroom.
The family bathroom is again beautifully presented and a fantastic size, continuing the same standard of finish you’ll find throughout the home.
Outside is another space I really love.
You’ve a driveway at the front, with access down the side of the home leading through into the rear garden.
It’s beautifully private, with a really nice blend of modern and cottage-style features that work so well together.
Straight from the dining room, the bi-folding doors open onto a lovely decked seating area, which then leads down onto a neat lawned garden.
Raised, walled borders surround the space, adding to that cottage feel, whilst a further decked area at the back of the garden leads to the home office.
And this is another really useful addition.
Insulated and well fitted, the home office is a great size. There’s plenty of room for a desk, chair and storage, and I’d say it could easily accommodate two people working from home if needed.
All in all, The Old Ploughboy is a home that really does offer something a little different. You’ve all the character and charm you’d hope to find in a property of this style, but with the space, layout and finish that makes it incredibly practical for modern family life.
